The necessity sense ss19 „needle in the sea“ collection reflects the designer’s family ties as well as their cultural roots in Taiwan.
Inspired by their grandfather who was first to enter the fishing industry, the designers focused on the intense journey that fishermen must endure throughout their lives. They float endlessly on sea nine months a year and often only return home once in two years. With life on sea being extremely unpredictable, they endure unforeseeable dangers to support a family they rarely see.
This season’s colors are muted and play with textures that symbolize a fishermen’s surroundings such as silver, rust and natural irregular patterns. Graphics taken from candid photographs on sea and old maps are sketched out and printed on silk fabrics.
